Where have all the Ostfold Cricketers gone?

Hi Friends,
It's been a very long time since we played cricket. When we started playing cricket, about six months back, we used to gather at the ground early in the morning and play till noon. Where is that enthusiasm gone? For a moment, we all thought that we have got a balanced side. But some defeats and the team suddenly looks to be in a bad shape. No one wants to play nowadays. I do understand that no one wants to be a part of a losing team but together, we can make it a winning team.

Let's start playing again on Saturdays ASAP.

Let's play among ourselves and practice as if we are the worst and play against other teams as if we are the best.

Hoping to see you at the cricket ground next weekend................

New Captain or same captain?

Senthil has put down his papers as Captain of the Ostfold Cricket Team. So what do you say people? Should we accept or should we deny? Do we need a new captain or should we give Senthil a chance to rebuild the team?

My opinion is that he has built the team from scratch. But maybe he also should concentrate on being a player for some time. I have put a poll on the side bar which ends tomorrow. So please vote by EOD tomorrow for the captain.

Captain quits. Decides to step down after (a) series (of) defeat(s)

Dear team members,

I have decided to step down from captaincy due to the continuous failure of our team.

It's with great pride and happiness that I make the decision to resign from captaincy. I have come to this decision after much thought. I have been fortunate to have had an amazing journey of forming the team and arranging some great matches. I am sincerely grateful to all who have helped make this happen. I am now ready and excited to move into the next phase of my cricket, as a player alone (not as a captain). I believe that this will help me concentrate more on my batting and fielding.

Thanks to all ostfoldian cricketers for your support.

We can win

Previous Saturday we lost very narrowly to Authoria.... thanks to Anoop again playing the sheet anchor role in batting.Sanjeeb was also great.Balaji was superb.Hey guys we should play our natural game instead of just "watching the ball" everytime. Come on guys we have gr8 talent. We have good batting and bowling line up but the only thing we have to stress is our fielding.

A lot depend upon the captain so Senthil you have to back your guys and make Ostfold's cricket a successful one.

Hey let's stop playing with other teams.Let us start playing among ourself first so that we can understand our pros and cons and then start playing with other teams. This will help build our confidence and a better team for future ostfold matches.

Come On guys let us sing the mantra "chakh de ostfold" ......

Lance Mathav: The man who watched the ball

There were many who were advised to watch the ball. But the only man who really watched the ball was none other than Mathavan who usually watches other matches.

It happened last saturday...(29th of December 2007).

Our team was playing against a visiting team. We were 1-0 down and started the second game when things started going our way. We had a reasonably good opening partnership inspite of the fact that our regular opener 'Steve' was on leave.

Then came the man who really watched the ball. He came like a lightning and went like a thunder. At this time, not only Mathav, but everyone watched the ball being scattered to different parts of the ground from the blade of Mathav. The opponents were dumbstruck to see the man who watched the ball playing a cameo innings. They never expected it because they thought he was a defensive player. But they did not know his other side (ie. he is a situation player who can take the game away from the opposition single handedly). In the end, we were able to put up a mammoth total.
It's not over yet. He also watched the ball while fielding in the boundary and took a couple of stunning catches.
We won the match by a huge margin and levelled the series 1-1, because of the man who watched the ball.
This is what Mathav shared with the team members after the game. "I really like to thank Senthil who advised me to watch the ball and because of that, I was able to achieve so much in this game. I hope that I will continue to watch the ball in the upcoming matches too".

Congrats Mathav.

One Suggestion for Mathav:

In the future games, while fielding, do not only watch the ball but also stop the ball.

This post is dedicated to all Ostfoldians who played on 29th dec 2007.

Best bowler

After the latest polls, the best bowler award goes to... BALAJI.

I haven't been around for some days now and I missed one game I suppose. Last week there was no cricket due to Diwali. Hopefully, we'll be playing this weekend.

And three cheers for Balaji for selected best bowler.

Best batsman

I dont know how many of you noticed the best batsman poll that was available on the left for a couple of weeks. The results are below:

Total votes - 7
Anoop - 4
Sanjeeb - 2
Naveen - 1

So the winner of the first poll and adjudjed best batsman is Anoop Johnson.

Now, I have put up a new poll to find the best bowler as voted by us. I encourage all of you to vote and get your colleagues to vote without fail too. Cheers!!!

Note: Next week - Best All-rounder.
